Introduction to the Learning Area Outcomes
A definition and description of the purpose of learning within the learning area:
The Learning Outcomes Framework for the Humanities aims to enable all learners to explore and reflect upon human experience in the past and present. Learners develop an understanding of the diversity, richness and complexity of human experience in time and space and in a range of local and global contexts and frames of reference. Learners explore historical, geographical, social, political, environmental and economic dimensions of human experience and the interrelationships between them. Through their studies in the humanities, learners develop competencies in inquiry, data handling and organisation and in empathetic and logical reasoning that empower creativity, reflection and critical thinking.

    Learning Area Outcomes:

I  ask questions about human experience in the past and present and build and develop my knowledge and understanding through enquiry.

I locate, select, interpret and evaluate information about human experience in the past and the present and think critically and creatively about humanities issues.

I  explore and evaluate similarity and difference and change and continuity in both the past and the present.

I explain processes of change and development in the past and the present and reflect upon and evaluate possible future developments.

I explore and evaluate local and global social, economic, political and environmental issues of both the past and the present.

I think critically and creatively about everyday problems in local and global contexts.

I  think critically and creatively about moral and ethical issues in the past and the present and about the diverse ways in which these issues can be understood.

I  reflect upon and explore  my Maltese identity and the relationships between diversity and identity in Malta, Europe and the world.

I  evaluate my learning in the humanities and I can improve and develop my knowledge and understanding.

I understand how learning about the humanities can enrich my experience and understanding of the world and how it can be of value throughout my life.
I value learning about people in time and place.
