Learning Area Outcome: I can understand how religious and secular cultures and belief systems sustain different ways of life and can co-exist harmoniously in societies like that in Malta, where moral and cultural differences are respected and valued. (Strand: Religious Language)

Subject Focus: Religion and Society

1] I can explain in various ways, the relationship between Church and State in the context of religious freedom and democracy and reflect how this influences my life as a Christian/Catholic within the Maltese context.

2] I can concretely expound how the right to religious freedom and freedom of conscience are essential for a peaceful co-existence within Maltese and European society for instance in: Dignitatis Humanae, and in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Learning Area Outcome: I am aware of the basic tenents, rituals and narratives of the major belief systems. (Strand: Religious Language)

Subject Focus: Major World Religions - Selected Study

1] I can appraise how Christians/Catholics, Jews and Muslims express the sense of the Sacred in their daily life, and write about how this has increased my awareness and respect for the various faith expressions of the followers of these religions.

1] I can illustrate, through the experiences of believers (Biblical and Church), the human quest and search for God for instance as in Job 42:1-5, and in Psalm 42, or  Mt 7:7-8 or Deut.4:29 or Jer.29:12-13.

2] I can analyse and appraise the relationship between Christmas and Easter as the beginning and accomplishment of salvation.

1] I can discuss and describe how the unique characteristics found in the Holy Trinity: communion, love, mutual respect and dialogue can be mirrored in Christian life.

1] I can research and discuss the life of St Thomas More and St Maximillian Kolbe while learning the values of integrity, honesty, faithfulness to God and faithfulness towards one’s beliefs and conscience.

2] I can research and discuss the life of St Teresa d’Avila, or St Catherine of Siena, or St Therese of Liseux or St Hildegard of Bingen or St Teresa Benedicta (Edith Stein) and explore how through their life and teachings, they are key figures in the shaping of modern Christianity.
